Hot Cross Bun mmmMallows Easter Egg S’mores
You get s'mores... and then you get Hot Cross Bun Easter S'mores! Homemade hot cross buns and mmmMallows Easter Eggs — that's where the magic happens.
Ingredients
- 1 sachet (10g) yeast
- 1 cup (250ml) lukewarm milk
- 1 Tbsp (15ml) white sugar
- ¼ cup (60ml) melted butter
- 1 egg, whisked
- splash of orange juice
- 3½ cups cake flour
- 1 tsp (5ml) salt
- 1 Tbsp (15ml) each ground ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg
- ½ cup (125ml) castor or regular sugar
- handful raisins
For the cross decoration:
- ½ cup (125ml) flour
- 3 Tbsp (45ml) water
To finish:
- 3 Tbsp (45ml) apricot jam, thinned down with hot water
- 3 Beacon mmmMallows Easter Eggs
- handful Beacon Pink and White mmmMallows
- 4 blocks Beacon Heavenly Milk Chocolate
Method
- Combine yeast, water and sugar in a bowl. Leave for 6-10 minutes until frothy.
- Combine butter, egg and orange juice, and set aside.
- In a large bowl, add flour, salt, sugar and spices.
- Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and knead for 5 minutes until smooth.
- Cover dough and set aside for 30 minutes to double in size.
- Knock dough down and divide in half. (Save the other half to make a second batch).
- Divide dough into 6 equal balls.
- Set aside on a greased or lined baking tray, cover and leave to rise for 10 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 180°C.
- For the cross decoration, combine flour and water (it needs to be a thick paste) and place into a piping bag.
- Pipe the cross onto each dough ball. Place immediately into the oven.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until cooked through and golden.
- Remove from the oven and brush immediately with apricot jam until glossy. Allow to cool.
- Halve each bun and place onto a baking tray.
- Top the bottom half of each bun with your favourite combination of mmmMallows Easter Eggs, Pink and White mmmMallows and Beacon Heavenly Milk Chocolate.
- Bake for a further 5-10 minutes or until gooey.
- Place the top half onto each bun and enjoy immediately.
